The Weary Warrior - Try-not-to-do's - Part 2

Wup, wup, wup, wup, wup, WUP, WUP,
WUP, WUP….

The weary warrior’s heart expectantly races as the once dull thuds become
increasingly louder. She surveys the airspace above, locates the helicopter
that smoothly descends downward to the earth with the supplies she desperately
needs. She takes the supplies and eagerly cracks the wooden crate open. Finally, supplies to complete my mission!  Eagerly she rummages through the
packaging where she digs out her supplies:  bowling pins, a disco ball, water skis and a clown costume. What is this? Why’d my team even put the
helicopter in the air? This stuff doesn’t help me at all…it’s pretty bad if
spam would be more useful and welcome at this point!

Here are some unhelpful things my
warrior friends Kim, Missy and Linda said did NOT help them while their spouses
were on long term deployments.

Here’s some help in the
“try-not-to-do’s” when supporting a weary warrior, who’s left to defend her
home front alone.  Here’s the “low
five” your friend just might not need!

1.
 Don’t leave your buddy behind.

“Let me know if
you need something” or “I’ll pray for you” are often overused phrases used to
let the messenger feel good about herself while the warrior is left
hanging!  Instead of saying you’ll
pray (which you may or may not actually do), pray with her right then and
there.  Missy said, “Praying for me
and my family over the phone touched my heart”.

2.
Don’t ask her to watch your platoon too.  One platoon’s enough in war time!

A friend that you’ve felt
comfortable swapping childcare with doesn’t have the same stamina while in
battle.  Consider, just while the
spouse is deployed, to allow a one way child care situation to flow.

3.
Don’t compare battle scars.

On the battlefield
everyone is busy, but the ones on the
front line, in particular, have their hands most full!  Linda provided, “I’ve been meaning to
call you but we are so busy” is hurtful as she felt quite busy herself.  In the same respect, don’t try to
compare your husband’s week long business trip to your friend’s six month (or more!)
deployment.  It’s like comparing a
boot blister to a land mine amputation!

4.
 Don’t
forget your compass. Be specific about the direction of your help.

Instead of a wide
offer, be specific about the direction of your help. Kim (who had her third son
while her husband was deployed) said the following examples would have been a
tremendous help:  “It must be hard
to get any yard work done when you have to keep an eye on the kids. Can I cut
the grass for you?” or, “I noticed that school gets out during your baby’s
naptime.  Can I pick up your child
for you/meet them at the bus stop?”

5.  Don’t forget that war is hairy
business.

Don’t let your
friend get to her wits end or have too many split ends! Keep an eye out on your
warrior friend.  If she’s looking
“follicular challenged” offer to watch her kids so she can get her hair
cut/colored.  When she picks her
kids back up, have them already fed or prepare a dinner to bless her with.

“A solider signs up to join the fight, a warrior stays until
it is finished.”[i] Help your
friend finish strong, and stay by her side until her battle is finished!

The Weary Warrior - "Could Do's" - Part 1 of 2

There, in the middle of the chaotic
surroundings, lay my comrade.  She wearily
low crawls to safety, guzzling the lukewarm beverage from her canteen.  This warrior knows the battlefield and
has refused to surrender, for her troops and the mission need her.  She is weary, exhausted and outnumbered
by more vigorous forces.  After a
deep breath, she thanks God for the Starbucks Breakfast Blend as it provides
the energy required to navigate the next landmine field:  homework, soccer, dinner, bedtime and
laundry.  She is defending the home
front, alone.  I reach out my hand,
lift her up and pass her a chicken with something-else-in-it casserole.  She smiles.  One casserole was all it took for her to realize she can endure
one more mission on the battlefield.

As our country remains at war, a
staggering number of families are being separated for long periods of
time.  “Solider is a position.
Warrior is an attitude.”[i]  I interviewed three true warrior girlfriends,
all mother to three; Kim, Missy and Linda about what helped and what didn’t
while their husbands were deployed.
I compiled a list of could-do’s
because we all could do something to
aid our friends as they defend the home front.  Here’s the “high five” your friend just might need!

1.
Feed the troops.

This was the top
response! FEED THE TROOPS!  Bring
an unexpected meal.  Or, organize
friends/neighbors and drop off the meal schedule with dates and menu so your
friend can plan the other nights around those meals. Missy said, “Dinner and
homework time are close together so it was such a blessing to not have to
juggle a meal as well!”  If you
can’t cook or have limited time, mail your friend a gift card to her favorite
restaurant. Even, pick up a cooked rotisserie chicken, bread and a salad from
the salad bar and drop it off (it’ll be better than the peanut butter and jelly
sandwich that your friend would go to bed feeling guilty about that night!)

Put together a
movie and pizza night basket.  Get
a gift card for your friend’s favorite pizza and movie rental place. Put some
popcorn and candy in there and let your friend have a pizza, movie night with
the kids at home!

2.
Be willing to low crawl.

Take care of the
“low crawlers”, her kids, for just an hour or two a week, with no expectation
of reciprocity.  Request that your
child and friend’s child be placed on the same sports team and carpool for her!  Figure out what your friend’s “thing”
(scrapbooking, running, book club, Bunco) is.  Offer to faithfully watch her kids that night each month and
let her do her “thing”.

3.
Keep a watchful eye on the morale.

Find out when your
friend’s birthday and anniversary are and do something, anything, to make it special (flowers, chocolate).  Don’t forget Mother’s Day and holidays too!

Shoot an email
over saying, “I’m thinking of you!” or “You’re doing a great job managing
everything!”  It’s nice to read
affirming emails after a long day!

Email a bunch of
friends that she knows, and some she doesn’t, and have them mail cards and
emails of encouragement and appreciation. She can reread those cards over and
over to get a boost! A little appreciation can go a long way.

4.
Do regular radio checks.

Call and sincerely
ask how her day/week was.  Allow
her to vent frustrations and listen when she is at her wit’s end.  Kim said, “A lot of wives feel added
stress by believing they need to appear as though they’ve got it all together.
Just being allowed to vent frustrations about her kids/husband/neighbors/etc is
helpful!”

5.
Recognize the enemy tactic to isolate and
attack.

Missy said
weekends were a big one for her, “They can be lonely because most friends are
with their own family, try to include them in any family outings.”  Linda offered, “Get a movie and bring it
over to your girlfriend’s house as nighttime can get lonely.” (Your friend can
have girlfriend time without needing the expense of a babysitter!)

If you want to support the troops overseas, then protect, care and
nurture their blessings back home.
We all can’t do everything, but can do something.  God bless our troops and their famili

The Family History Club

By: StephFink

“You’re here just for familyhistory reasons?” the white-cloaked technician inquired.
“Well, for that and a follow-upbecause I had a biopsy two years ago…it was a benign cyst,” I stoicallyreplied.
“Okay…follow me to the changingarea.”
As I secured my possessions andleft “the gown open in front,” my emotions began to rev up.  Lord, why AM I  so spunup right now? It’s just a simple test! Help me, Lord, for I want to chew thistechnician’s head off and I don’t know why.
I abandoned the spa-likedressing room only to enter the un-spa-like medical cave complete with asee-through glass window.  As thetechnician positioned the IV needle into my arm, I couldn’t shake the “familyhistory” question.  I hate thatquestion, hate it.  I feel moreexposed telling this technician about Mom and Grandma’s deaths than in thishorrid gown.
“Lie face down and put yourbreasts through the cut-outs.  Thetest will take about 20 minutes. Lie still.”  She then stuffedearplugs into my ears and exited the cave to observe me from the adjoiningroom.  How humiliating.
I lay still on the board as itcrept snail-like backward into the sterile white cylinder.  As the obnoxiously loud and randombeeps ping ponged around me, this tough girl did the unthinkable: I started tocry.  What is going on…get yourself together!
Since I rarely run in idlemode, God used this time to have me come face-to-face with my “familyhistory.”  Never before did Icorrelate the anger and fear that periodically surged at the most random times, like with an innocent technician who was just doing her job.  The mascara-mixed puddle of tears thatcollected on the floor below me had everything to do with “family history.”
Sure, it’s not typical for a34-year-old woman to get a breast MRI. Even less typical, was a young girl who watched her mother die a slow, long, painful death at the consuming hand of breast cancer.  I was the only eighth-grade graduatewhose mother cheered from a wheelchair with a reflective head and scars thatmimicked a war veteran.  That wasmy last milestone with Mom on earth. I miss you so much Mom…
The free-flowing fountain oftears cleared my vision and for the first time, I saw the real origin.  Every club I joined was my choice withthe exception of the Family History Club. And because of who I knew, I am non-consensually granted Lifetime Memberstatus.  This club doesn’t have aspecial handshake or a funky-tasseled, elk-horned hat.  No, this membership involves medicalproviders who raise their eyebrows whenever the “family history” questionsarise, periodic pity parties, and of course, extracurricular inspections.
As a child, I had fears whichhave since been resolved.  I am nolonger afraid that the “Jaws” shark might suddenly appear in my bath, nor thatthe “Planet of the Apes” cast will ravage my home.  As a woman, I lived through the 1999 F-5 tornado thatdevastated Moore, Oklahoma, and the tragic 9-11 Pentagon plane crash.  While both those experiences weren’tpleasant, they didn’t scare me. Honestly, few things scared me before I had children. Now that I am amother, I have this new found fear of leaving my precious children motherless.
It wasn’t until months afterthat MRI cry-fest that I received closure to the questions that had plucked myheartstrings since I was 13.  Howdid Mom face breast cancer, surgery and treatments? How did she face a failedremission, knowing that she was going to leave behind a husband and four girlswho depended on her?
The Holy Spirit reminded me ofthe most precious gift my dad ever gave me, my mom’s Bible.  Her Bible and faith were messy andreal.  The underlined scriptures, grocery lists and scribble-filled sermon notes that littered her King JamesVersion tell me the answers. The only way she faced the reality of herdiagnosis was with courage and faith. Not faith in herself, but faith in her God.
In the third chapter of Daniel, the Bible tells the story of three men who refused to bow down and worship afalse idol.  An angry KingNebuchadnezzar placed them in a fiery furnace to die.  However, the Bible says there were four inside the fieryfurnace.  Doing a head count,Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego make three.  But they were not alone.  God was there. With them.  In thefire.
Their refusal to worship afalse idol required faith and courage. As I thought about their example, God showed me I worshipped my fearmore than I worshipped Him.  Andwithout faith it’s impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).
My mother gave me a front rowseat to what real faith and courage look like.  Since that reality check, I have refused to bow down to thefear of an “if.” I trust that if the day should ever come that I too amdiagnosed with breast cancer, God will continue to be with me.  He promises, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
While I did not choose myFamily History Club membership, I have changed my response to it by choosingfaith over fear.

More Examined In The Waiting Room

“Our work as God’s servantsgets validated-or not-in the details. People are watching us…” Excerpt from 2 Corinthians 6 (The Message)

I entered the baby blueshoebox-sized office to be promptly shooed away to a steel framed chair.  “Well good morning, Sunshine,” Imurmured as I slid down into my seat. “Sunshine” beckoned me once for the insurance card hokey-pokey and thenpointed to the same chair I left just moments ago.  And there I waited.

Twenty minutes passed when apleasant nurse called me back, checked my vitals and placed me in anexamination room.  My doctorconducted a thorough examination and provided a great report. Yes!
My delight swiftly became dreadas I approached the check-out counter. Ugh, there she is again.  I waited silently, being blatantlyignored; not even eye contact! “Sunshine” was in the middle of an intimate file tango and my presencewas clearly an undesired interruption.

Takea deep cleansing breath, I commanded myself as I examined mysurroundings.  Lo and behold asubtle delight returned when my eyes observed the McDonald’s iced coffee thatrested next to her.
Ah,yes! When…IF…I get out of here…I’m hitting the Golden Arches to get a free icedcoffee with the coupon waiting patiently in my wallet!

I dug into my purse, pulled outmy wallet and obediently stood at attention until I could pay and escape.  Immediately, conviction dropped on meas fast as a new mother tends to her baby’s peep.  I reached into my wallet, pulled out my precious coupon andthought, Yes God, I will.

Gulp.“Isee you like those iced coffees too. Here, take my coupon for a free one.”
She looked up at me.  Her strained brown transformed into apleasant and familiar double arch. We chatted easily for the next ten minutes in friendly conversation and partedwith wide smiles.  You know, theway friends do.

No, there wasn’t an opportunityto tell her about my faith, but I did get to show her what it looked like.  That moment wasn’t about her grumpinessor my initial negative reaction. It was about my choice to be more like Christ, even when I really didn’twant to.  God used that opportunityto show me it is more important how I behave while I wait, than how I behavewhile I am examined.  How I wait is a front row view of who I really am.

You know what it cost me? Well, depending on the size, $1.69 or $1.99 (plus tax)…no, it cost me my pride.  I decided to swallow a calorie-freeportion of pride rather than a free iced java.
Yes, the doctor examined me inthe examination room that day.  Buteven more importantly, God examined my character in the waiting room.  And, in both rooms, the test resultscame out just fine.

First Things First - Kurt and Brenda Warner

"Mom why are you reading about Kurt Warner" was the question that came out of my 9 years old sons mouth -  I had no idea he even knew who Kurt Warner was  I replied with "do you know who he is?".  His giggling response was
"Yes, he is the quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals." He was correct and now I had the opportunity to explain to him why I was reading a book about a football player he obviously keeps up on.

I was in the process of reading First Things First by Kurt and Brenda Warner a book not about Kurts successful football career but about his success in putting family first - the day to day life of raising 7 kids and how family, faith, and giving to others— their family motto,  drives everything they do.   Kurt and Brenda write openly about their marriage, the values theyare working to instill in their kids, things they’ve done right, mistakes they’ve made, the importance of giving back, and the legacythey hope to leave behind along with the family rules they live by.

I have recently read several books about various families, their values and how they manage their families and homes - this book by far related to me in our family philosophy, the rules we attempt to instill in our own children, the mission of our family and the craziness of raising a large family.  From faith to family our goal has been to teach our kids the priority of God, Family and others and as one reads First Things First there is no doubt you will be inspired in your parenting journey as the Warners share real life ups and downs along their journey.

A Loose Screw

By: StephFink

It was one of those days, weeks…okay, months.
My hubby’s travel schedule wasinsanely high and my sons’ healths were extremely low.  Add in “life”, and this Momma wasbeginning to feel like I had more than a few loose screws.
For four straight weeks, somebody had something.  We almostmade it through the week without one of our kids being sick; the key word beingalmost.  On Thursday, the schoolrepresentative called to say that our oldest had a fever.  As I raced to collect my little bearcub, I noticed that the “check tire pressure“ light illuminated from my dashboard…and spirit.
My tires weren’t the only thingthat felt a little deflated.
I pumped my 102 degree honeywith some ibuprofen and proceeded to the gas station.  As I checked the air pressures of my tires, I found it, myloose screw, wedged into my minivan tire. It’s pathetic to admit that I had an LOL moment there, outside inpublic, about the whole loose screw thought.
Hello crazy lady filling hertire, laughing alone, like a mad scientist.
As I filled three of my fourdeflated tires, I realized that I was in the perfect position, knelt, moderately crazy and desperate. Every day I’m desperate for God, but it takes the loose screw days, toconfirm it.  Right then and therewas as good a time as any to talk with God.  I used the remainder of the time, to fill er’ up, both mytires and my spirit.
I needed to fill up on God so Icould get through that month, which punctured and slowly deflated the air outof the tire of my life.  So withtwo sons inside the minivan and one loose screw Momma on the outside, I talkedto God.  God heard my cry for help(Psalm 34:15), cared (1 Peter 5:7), and it filled me with the fullness of God, notinsanity (Ephesians 3:19).
Later that night, our otherson, had a bedtime meltdown of epic proportions.  He went into a tearful litany of how so many things were, “Notfair!”  He was just overtired andoh, how I could relate.  The onlydifference was that I was the responsible adult even thought I really, reallydidn’t want to be.  What my sonneeded was the same thing I needed just hours ago, to cry out, be cared for andfilled up.  Oh yeah, and his backscratched too.
So I turned off the lights, hoppedinto his bed and gave my son the same gift God gave me earlier, a present and engagedaudience for the next episode of, “As The World Is Not Fair”.
“He makes us lie down in greenpastures”, (err, I mean in a stuffed animal-filled bed) to be refreshed andcomforted (Psalm 23).
Somewhere between finding thatI indeed had a screw loose, and that my son had strep again, I also realized thatrunning on empty is one of the most dangerous places for a mother to be.  It’s more dangerous than a half offshoe sale, with cash and a coupon in hand…yeah, that dangerous.
If you’re feeling like me, thatmaybe you just might have a screw loose too, I want to encourage you to checkyour pressure level, don’t keep runnin’ on empty.  Fill er’ up to enjoy, not just endure, whatever is causingthe temporary deflation.  Godcares, God comforts and God will fill er’ up…whether you have a screw loose ornot!

Real Friends Push

By: Stephanie Fink

Our oldest son, Jake, exited his school bus that sunny Friday afternoon, deflated and defeated. This was entirely different from his normal exit which typically included a big smile, hug and the challenge of a race home.

I inquired, “What’s up bud?” Hesitantly, he told me that on his five minute bus ride home from school, his “friend” closed-fist punched him at least ten times as he was pretending to be a robot.

Jake asked his friend to stop hitting him but his friend continued.  I asked Jake why he didn’t move to another seat.  He was afraid that his bus driver would yell at him since they have assigned seats.  I feared the answer to my next question, “Well, how did that make you feel honey?”

His sad eyes spoke louder than his words, “Scared.”

I lifted Jake’s shirt and observed the numerous red marks on his milky-white core.  My insides were more explosive than a fourth of July sky.  Silently, I cried out to the Lord, “Father, why? Help!”

Confused and hurt Jake asked, “Why’d my friend hit me?” I embraced him tightly, “Honey, real friends don’t punch.” Jake balled up on my lap like a cat in a sun spot and cried. I felt powerless that I was not able to protect him there on that bus.

To add to the moment, my anchor of a husband was working overseas.  If there ever was I time that I needed to not just be the adult, but also act like one…it was now.

Jake and I prayed and came up with a plan of action.  He agreed that after I talked to this boy’s parents, he was going to talk to his friend too.

I called the boy's mother and told her what happened and if after she talked with her son, if Jake could speak with him.  She agreed. When she called back, Jake courageously asked his friend, “Why did you punch me?  You made me feel sad.” The boy replied, “I didn’t hit you.”

Jake dropped the phone and went to cry.  Over the span of the weekend, the boy's parents called three more times, to tell me that their son didn’t budge and that he “didn’t hit Jake.”

Confused and hurt, Jake asked, “Why would my friend lie?” Embracing his little body, I whispered, “Honey, real friends don’t punch and real friends don’t lie. He is not a real friend.” Jake balled hysterically.

Our Saturday morning devotion theme was this, to P-U-S-H.

P -ray
U-ntil
S-omething
H-appens

I asked our sons who they wanted to "p-u-s-h" for.  Without hesitation, Jake said this little boy, “that God would make him my friend.” I put on a poker face, knowing Jake was right, but I won’t lie, I wanted this little boy to pay for what he did to my son.

“What an awesome idea Jake.  Let’s pray right now.” So we lifted our heavy hearts and prayers to the most real friend I’ve ever known, Jesus.

During my Sunday morning private time, I can across this verse, “If someone strikes you, don’t hit back. Love your friend and love your enemies. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer.”

I shared Matthew 5:32-48, (Message) over breakfast and told him, "That’s what God told us to do - respond with prayer - and you did it! You are a great friend to God and this boy. Mom and Dad are so proud of you, and most importantly God IS proud of you son!"

Again, Jake decided right there and then to pray for this boy to, “make a thumbs up choice” and tell the truth.

Again, he p-u-s-h-ed and again, my heart pulled.

Monday morning arrived.  Jake knew I was contacting school administration because being hit is not okay.  I learned three things that day: 1. the boy's father went in before school started.  2.  the boy not only admitted but apologized for punching Jake.  3.  that real friends don’t punch, they push.

Jake’s bedtime prayer that night which was just like him; short and sweet, “God, thank you for answering my prayers.” With misted eyes, I said a hearty, “Amen!”

One year later, the very same boy that punched Jake, stood up for him when a lunchbox inadvertently hit Jake in the back of his head. This boy found told the teacher, and stood up for Jake, cause that’s what real friends, like God, do.  They show up for you when you have no words to speak.

Navigating through life's pulls, pushes and punches are difficult. Impossible if it wasn't for God.  God used my elementary aged son to teach me that true friends don’t punch, no - they push.  They pray until something happens.

Handing the wheel over in my life

Last week while driving my Mom mobile I was listening to my local radio station when the radio host began telling a story about finding his bible in the back seat of his car and how it hit him that often in his life he had been putting Jesus in the back seat of his life. Not allowing him (Jesus) to be the driver of his life, guiding him just as our GPS units do these days and that he was constantly trying to take the wheel and drive his own life only to find himself crashing into the wall of sin or driving down the wrong road.

How often do we put Jesus in the back seat when it comes to our priorities, daily decision making and parenting our children.  How often are we trying to take hold of the wheel and drive our lives down the roads we think are best without seeking Jesus as the GPS of our lives?

Maybe today you are feeling as if your life (car) is spinning out of control, or you have made a few wrong turns and your trying to find your way back,  your trying to figure out how to enter the right destination into that GPS only to feel helpless or more like out of Gas and your brakes no longer work.

Just as Carrie Underwood sings in her song "Jesus, Take the wheel" I want to encourage you to hand your life steering wheel over to Jesus - moving him from the back seat to the driver seat and let him drive your life.  No, it wont always be easy but he is there to carry us through.

When you think things cannot get any worse, God carries you farther into the valley and comes out holding your hand - Lisa Ramsland, author

Make it a goal this week to move Jesus from the back seat of your life to the driver seat - here are a few ideas to inspire you:

- Get up 10 minutes earlier each day and spend it with Jesus

What ideas do you have to inspire you or other moms to put Jesus in the driver seat?

Get Yourself Some MOM Friends

Almost two years ago I began meeting weekly with a small group of moms who have become my mom inspiration, filters, confidants, advice givers and  prayer partners  - Each week we meet we discuss the current mom bible study we are reading together, we share our mom challenges, we cry, we laugh, we share the good the bad and the ugly of life together - and each week I leave knowing I have a group of moms who are traveling the mom journey with me.

Why am I telling you about this amazing group of moms I meet with because I want to encourage you if you don't already have a group of moms who are traveling the journey with you to go get your self some mom friends.  I know at times it is not easy to find them but don't give up take the initial step to reach out to other moms to offer to host a small mom group in your own home, find a mom group to join such as MOPS ( mothers of preschoolers), or MOMSnext, call your local church to see if they have an existing mom group.

When creating your own mom group keep it simple invite a few moms over, serve coffee and a simple treat ( rotate bringing treats with the moms), choose a bible study you are all interested in that does not require a lot of homework and meet on a regular basis.

In need of a Bible/Book study idea:

Unconditional Love

by Jeanie Cullip
24/7 Moms Inspiration Editor

God is absolutely, positively in love with YOU! Yes You, Beloved, the one that is reading this devotion. He loves you and He so very badly wants you to love Him back.

God loves us so much that He gave His only Son to come to earth, mingle with us, teach us how we are to live, die on the cross so that we may have eternal life!

In return we need to love Him back. Unconditionally. Just as He loves us, unconditionally.

What does it mean to love our Father in heaven unconditionally? It means that we are to accept whatever He has for us. It means that we are to Trust Him in all of our daily decisions. It means that we praise Him when we are full of joy and we praise Him when we are full of despair. It means that He completes us, all of our satisfaction is found in Him and He meets all of our expectations!

Colossians 2:10 States we are complete in Christ Jesus.

Know that you are complete in Him. Because of Jesus you are a whole person complete and lacking absolutely nothing.

• Psalm 107:9 States He satisfies the longing soul, He fills the hungry soul with goodness.

Your satisfaction is in God alone. Jesus is my Snickers! He completely satisfies me. Whenever we try to find satisfaction in anyone or anything else we will be let down. No one else is designed to fill this role in our lives.

Psalm 62:5 My soul wait only upon God and silently submits to Him for my hope and expectations are from Him

God meets all of our expectations. Expect God to make you happy, forgive you, understand you, and provide for you and to meet all of your needs. Allow God to use people in your life to complete these things and/or allow Him to work in our hearts to rearrange our desires. When our expectations are in God it frees up everyone else around us.

This weekend I found out that a mother in my church lost her son and has another in ICU due to a car accident. Beloved, if we unconditionally love God who unconditionally loves us, we know that no matter what everything is going to be okay. It may not be how we planned, but it is going to be okay.

Jesus I thank you for loving us no matter what. We may not do the things that we ought to, yet you still love us. Help us love you in return, no matter what. Help us understand your will and allow your will to be done here on earth as it is in Heaven. It will never be easy yet it will be worth it when we are standing with you face to face and live with you forever and ever.

What Your Child Needs

by Jeanie Cullip
24/7 MOMS Inspiration Editor

3 John 4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Children in this world need a personal relationship with Jesus. A relationship with Jesus is the most important gift we can offer to our children. This is not a gift we can give them however we can shine the light in the right direction. A relationship with Jesus will give them the foundation they need to survive everything that life will throw at them.

A great way to shine this light is to educate them of their need for salvation. This is your primary task as a parent and as their spiritual leader. The following are a list of high “lights” from the Bible. I have found that learning them yourself first so that you can easily share the message in a way that your child will understand. Tho the public library, Christian book stores and church libraries have bible books that are age appropriate for children, these are great too! However when you know the stories you will be able to discuss them with your child and answer any questions they may have.

1. All have sinned.

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

2. Sinners can do nothing to earn salvation

Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

3. Jesus is Lord of all.

Revelation 17:14 They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

4. Jesus became man

Philippians 2:6-7 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness

5. He became a sacrifice for our sin

2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

6. He rose triumphantly from the dead.

Romans 1:4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord

7. His righteousness is given to those who trust him.

1 Corinthians 1:30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

8. Repent

Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord

9. Turn your heart from all the dishonors God.

1 Thessalonians 1:9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,

10. Follow Jesus

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me

Present these Bible high ”lights” to your child, pray to Jesus to open their hearts, step back and allow God to do the rest!
