This is Otis after he has taken his barnyard responsibilities seriously and has stepped in to run things.

. . . Otis is now the barnyard leader . . .

. . . he's supposed to be watching out for all the others . . .

. . . he appears to be doing just that . . .

. . . although he does have help . . .

. . . you had better not mess with us . . .

A hilarious look at what really happens in a barnyard when the farmer’s back is turned. “Barnyard” is a lighthearted tale centering around Otis, a carefree party cow, who enjoys singing, dancing and playing tricks on humans. Unlike his father Ben, the respected patriarch of the farm, and Miles, the wise old mule Otis is unconcerned about keeping the animals’ humanlike talents a secret. But when suddenly put in the position of responsibility, the “udderly” irresponsible cow finds the courage to be a leader.

Hmmm, how obvious is it that I don't see a lot of movies . . . oh well, this was fun! I took these photos on a photo excursion I took last year and have been dying to use them. I have to say I felt a little bit intimidated by these animals. Even though there was a fence between us I stayed back and zoomed in as much as I could. Is anyone else afraid of cows?

My recipe for the textures:

I created layer masks to blend the textures to fit the shape of the photo and used different blending modes on each layer to achieve the effect I wanted. I also used a hue/sat adjustment to tone down the whole thing. Frame by Katie Pertiet.

Inspired

We just got back from a road trip through Saskatchewan. There is an area near Biggar where the ditches are filled with baby's breath. Cloud after cloud after cloud of a baby's breath. It takes me back. It inspires me. It fills me with nostalgia.

Texture Tuesday and a dream

to come home and stay home, now that's a dream . . .

I'm joining in the fun at Kim Klassen Cafe. She just recently gave us this new texture 'dream' and for some reason my mind went straight to this field of clover (no this is not my lawn but it's similar . . .)

My recipe:

My photo lightened and brightened
1 layer of 'dream' at multiply, reduced opacity, layer masks to soften areas
1 layer 'sweettreat' at soft light

Frilly, fragrant, and fleeting

My dreamy peonies, a green crackle vase, and fragrant candles.

This week the theme for Texture Tuesdays at Kim Klassen Cafe is 'three'. Here I've created a still life using three different elements. I've been dreaming of peonies since the first shoot appeared in May. Me trying to capture the essence of a peony! are you kidding? But this is how I feel about them. They are frilly and fragrant and are here for such a short time I am left to wonder later - was it a dream?


After adjusting exposure and adding some blur I applied one layer of Kim's beautiful texture 'subtly yours' at 50% soft light - then using a layer mask, I played around until I had revealed a bit more of the flowers.

While taking the back highway home I run across some very interesting stuff! This old beater has seen better days! and here are my flowers 'By the wayside'.

Lily of the valley

enchanting, fragrant, exquisite

I went hunting in my favourite little junque store 'One Man's Treasure' and I found these two tiny vases. They are bright green, a  pretty green - but kind of quite overpowering. So, Kim Klassen to the rescue! I used her texture 'not too shabby' on soft light and wow! what a difference. All of a sudden I had this dreamy vignette with my lily-of-the-valley.

On the second photo I applied a photo filter (cyan) to bring it closer to the same exposure as the first photo. Magical stuff don't you think?

Meadow Rue

This is such an unassuming plant in my garden. It grows in a rather shady, dry, cool bed but never complains. I love these fluffy flowers that it produces - so delicate! I used Kim Klassen's new freebie texture 'subtly yours' that she so graciously gave us on Sunday. Her post was '10 Steps to Happiness - Get Started Today'. Lovely post, lovely gift. Thank you, Kim. Victorian Inspired Topiary

I made this Victorian-inspired topiary approximately 15 years ago (maybe more). At the time I was over-the-top fascinated by these - grew my own flowers, dried them, and scavenged for unique stems. I made so many I gave away dozens! Ahhh, but that was then. In the past year I have been wanting to get rid of all of the ones I kept. Their time is over. They are dusty. They don't fit with most of my decor. And I keep my stuff to a minimum. But I can't do it. I can't bring myself to throw them out. Perhaps by having a photo, inspired with Kim Klassens textures, we will be able to part ways. Perhaps. I used 'Luminous' and 'Love'.

Spring is bursting out!

I just can't seem to get enough of pussy willows! These have burst open and I love the airy, spidery look they have to them. ahhh spring . . . I picked them because I wanted to create an e-card for an instructor and friend at Digital Scrapper and this is what I came up with. I used Kim Klassen's textures; serendipity, silence, and sweet treat, and I'm sharing this with Texture Tuesdays at Kim Klassen Cafe.

Texture Tuesday at Kim Klassen Cafe

Well, I am running behind on all my various projects - I feel like I'm just keeping my head above water, but I love it! When you have a passion that will wake you up at 5:00 am because you want to get working on it - you are blessed. I used 'Sweetheart' 'Silence' and 'Luminous' using different blend modes, layer masks, and hue/saturation adjustments. Textures are addictive!

Love Letters

I created this in response to a challenge at Digital Scrapper to take a photo of something that money can't buy. I am a guardian, steward, keeper of family treasures and some of those treasures include love letters that my father wrote to my mother after he got back from the war. He was head-over-heels in love with her and it appears that she was giving him the cold shoulder! Looking back I can see that it was just my mother's nature - she was very undemonstrative. So, money can't buy such treasures, such memories, such feelings that can't quite be put into words. I wanted to share these in a way that would be respectful but still give a glimpse of the love of a young man for the woman he wanted to be his wife. I used Kim Klassen's texture - Serendipity, on soft light. This photo is a 'lift' of Kim Klassen's beautiful 'Giving Thanks for the Cross'.
